The universal screening tool is a short questionnaire that can be placed in packets that frequently are given to all families or youth at the time they enroll in school. The tool also could be administered at orientation, parent night, or freshman registration. The tool is designed to provide a non-judgmental method to determine students' eligibility for services without the stigma involved in exposing the details of a family's personal situation. The universal screening tools are available in English and Spanish in both the family and youth versions.
